Notes:
"Jean Lucienbonnet"'s real name was Lucien Jean Bonnet; he adopted the pseudonym around 1952, when he began his racing career driving Panhard and Porsches in the hillclimbs of Southern France. Born in Nice, in the French Riviera, he worked as a car mechanic in that town. In 1961 he debuted in Formula Junior races, and in the following year he participated in the Campionato Italiano Formula Junior (Italian Formula Junior Championship).

"Lucienbonnet" started the 1962 season very well, winning the first round, held at Caserta on 17 June, and being classified second in the next race, that took place at Monza in July; in fact, he only lost this race to "Geki" Russo in a final lap sprint.

Next round of the 1962 Campionato Italiano Formula Junior was the XI Gran Premio Pergusa Formula Junior, a supporting race to the non-championship Gran Premio Mediterraneo Formula 1 race, held at Pergusa on 19 August. During the race the Lotus driven by Norberto Bagnalasta lost a rear wheel at full speed. Making an attempt to avoid the rebounding wheel in the center of the track, “Lucienbonnet” swerved to left but lost the control of his Lotus 22 – Ford and went off the road. The car turned upside down, throwing “Lucienbonnet” off the car and onto the track. He was killed at the scene.

Nasif Estéfano, who was closely followed, reached that point of the circuit at very high speed as well and, trying to avoid running over “Lucienbonnet”’s body, also went off the road. Both Bagnalasta and Estéfano were unhurt, but both would be killed in other racing accidents years later – Bagnalasta in the 1964 Gran Premio della Loteria in Monza, and Estéfano in the 1973 Grande Premio de la Reconstrucción Nacional in Concepcción, Argentina.
