Notes:
The accident happened during the last round of the 1977 East Germany Formula Easter Championship, held at the Frohburger Dreieck, shortly after the start of the second race of the meeting, the Leistungsklasse II (2nd Class for novice drivers) race. Matthias Schäfer, a member of the MC Betonwerke Dresden racing team, lost control of his single-seater and left the road entering the town being killed upon impact. It has not yet been clarified if the young driver was born in Dresden or just resided.

Heinz Siegert from Leipzig won the race and the title from Peter Melkus, the younger son of Heinz Melkus builder of their Melkus - Lada Zhiguli. Wolfgang Guenther from Finsterwalde, East Germany won the Leistungsklasse I (1st Class) in a SEG M77 - Lada Zhiguli.
