Notes:
During the 2nd stage between Châteauroux and Narbonne, of the 2002 Arras-Madrid-Dakar Rally, at the exit of Montauban around 06 p.m., a local French citizen crashed into an assistance car from the Rally. This driver was killed in the accident and two persons of the assistance team were injured, not seriously.

The course of the 2002 Arras-Madrid-Dakar was: Arras – Châteauroux - Narbonne – Madrid – Rabat – Er Rachidia – Ouarzazate – Tan Tan – Zouerate– Atar - Tidjikja – Tichit – Kiffa –Dakar, passing from France through Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal. Japanese Hiroshi Masuoka with French co-driver Pascal Maimon in a Mitsubishi won the car competition, Fabrizio Meoni of Italy won his second motorcycle class in a row on a KTM, a Kamaz carried Russian Vladimir Chagin with co-drivers Sergej Savostine and Mardeev to first place in the truck class.
