Notes:
Don Vogler, a US Navy veteran of the Second World War, died in a midget crash at Indianapolis Speedrome in 1981, a short time after being re-instated following a suspension for assaulting an official.

Don’s death was a shock to the United States racing community.

According to the coroner's report Vogler suffered a heart attack prior to the accident although the death certificate lists the cause of death as "multiple injuries". His tombstone has the birth year as 1928 and the death certificate lists it as 1925.

Nine years later, the Vogler family's tragedy was compounded when Don's son, Rich Vogler, who had raced against his dad several times, died in a USAC Sprint Car race at Salem, Indiana.
