Notes:
The fourth edition of the Rally Marca Trevigiana, held near the town of Conegliano, province of Treviso in northeastern Italy, was suspended in consequence of a fatal accident. A well known figure in Veneto region rallying scene, the experienced rally co-driver Roberto Sabbion lost his life.

The accident occurred during the third special stage "Monte Cesen", on Saturday, 12 July 1986 afternoon. About two kilometer after crossing the starting line of the stage, located in the village of Combai, near Valdobbiadene in province of Treviso, while traveling at high speed the Renault R5 GT Turbo #71 Group N, driven by Bruno Baldan, in which Roberto Sabbion was acting as navigator, suddenly went out of control. The car swerved and crashed on the right side into one of the plane trees that lined the road. Roberto Sabbion suffered a broken neck and was killed upon impact.

Slightly injured, Baldan was treated at Valdobbiadene hospital and released. Owing to the tragedy, he decided to quit rallying for good, only to come back to racing occasionally almost ten years later. He passed away in November of 2016.

Roberto Sabbion, 38-year-old, co-drove to his friend Baldan since the early 1970s. He was a mechanic of Saccolongo, province of Padua, who personally tuned all their racing cars. The pair started competing in an Innocenti Mini Cooper S, then in a Peugeot 104 and a Fiat 127 for the Scuderia Città di Monselice, winning their class in the regional rally championship.

The 1986 Rally Marca Trevigiana was titled as "Memorial Henri Toivonen" in honor of the young finnish driver who was killed just two months earlier, during the Tour de Corse. His widow, Erja, his father, Pauli Toivonen and brother, Harry Toivonen, were among the spectators of the rally, invited by the organizers to act as starters.

After the accident the special stage was immediately stopped, and the remainder of the day's rally stages were canceled. Mario Aldo Pasetti-Roberto Stradiotto in a Lancia Rally 037 who were in the lead at the end of the third stage, were declared winners of the rally.

Five years later driver Bruno Baldan passed final judgement, guilty of the charge of manslaughter.
