Notes: The third edition of the Internationales Tauplitzalm-Bergrennen was held in Bad Mitterndorf - a town in the Austrian region of Salzkammergut - on 3 and 4 August of 1968. During the race on Sunday, Porsche driver Karl Seitz was seriously injured in a crash, passing away in the evening of the day of the accident in Bad Ischl hospital.
Seitz was said to be from Vienna, but it is unclear whether he was a native or a resident of that town. Also, it has not been confirmed that he was an Austrian citizen.
4,000 spectators attended the event which was held as the round of Austrian Hillclimb Championship and European Hillclimb Championship for motorcycles. Walter Rugg won the 250cc motorcycle class, setting a new record and strengthening his lead in European Championship. Gildo Guidi also set a new record for automobiles, beating the previous record of Rudi Lins by two tenths of second.
