Notes:
During Saturday qualifying session in sight of the 10 Hours of Suzuka, Satoru Takashima went straight at the Degner bend and flew over the guardrails, sustaining severe head and chest injuries. The 20 year-old rider who was at his debut, was immediately transferred by ambulance to hospital where, a few minutes later he succumbed to head injuries, particularly a basilar skull fracture.
